Gynecomastia

Men also desire a proportionate, harmonious, virile body that expresses strength and masculinity. This is not always possible because men are also subject to the imperfections caused by the passage of time.

One of the most well-known imperfections that affects them is gynecomastia, i.e. the pronounced development of the breast due to an increase in the mammary gland or the accumulation of fat. The causes of gynecomastia are generally due to hormonal problems, obesity, drinking or ageing.

For adult men with a normal weight, a fit and athletic body, gynecomastia can generate embarrassment and loss of self-esteem because the body you live in is not very toned, not very virile and different from what you would like to have. Fortunately, it is possible to solve this complication and give a man's chest the right shape and proportions back again. The final result? A more defined and attractive body for a more confident man.

The procedure

When gynecomastia depends on the increase in the mammary gland, I proceed with its removal, if it depends on excess fat, and we are talking about the majority of cases, I proceed with liposuction surgery. In the rare cases where both conditions occur, it is possible to remove the mammary gland and aspirate the fat during the same operation. When liposution is not enough i rarely use the open approach where a small incision is placed below the nipples to directly remove the glandular tissue.

A first visit allows me to understand the origin of gynecomastia and advise the patient on the appropriate type of surgeries, illustrate the risks and achievable results. The operation is performed under general anesthesia, takes about an hour and does not require hospitalization.

Upon awakening, the chest will present swelling and for protective purposes I recommend the use of an elastic band for about three weeks. For three days it is essential to rest completely. On the tenth day or so after the operation I will remove the stitches. From the fourth week, finally, the final results can be appreciated: a uniform chest with natural lines and a more harmonious and beautiful body.

Frequently asked questions

Doubts or questions? It's only natural to have any! Below I try to answer the most frequent ones. For further clarification you can write to me at any time, I will answer as soon as possible.
01. Do you have to be fasting to support the operation?
Yes, since it is general anaesthesia, you should not eat or drink for about six hours before the operation.
02. Is it necessary to stop smoking before the operation?
Yes. In order to promote rapid recovery and reduce the risk of infection, smokers should refrain from smoking, starting at least two weeks before the operation.
03. Is it not recommended to take medication before treatment?
It is not recommended, but there is a possibility that it is necessary to stop taking them.
04. Does gynecomastia only affect adult men?
No, it can also occur on a teenage boy. In these cases gynecomastia disappears with age, which is why I advise against proceeding with the operation and waiting for the boy to grow up.
