Breast Reduction
Breast reduction has the aim of reducing the volume of the mammary area, remodelling and improvement of the look of the mammary gland. The operation also leads to the reduction of symptoms like pain, sense of nuisance in the breast, shoulders, neckand the high part of the spinal column. The operation last 3 hours and you are hospitalized for one night.
A mammograpg is necessary before the operation to ensure that no illness is present in the breast.
All patients in good medichal conditions and with a very developped breast (gygantomastia) are candidates for breast reduction.
The operation is performed in total anaesthesia and consists in the removal of part of the skin, glandular tissue and fat from the breast; the areola and nipple are moved into a higher position and the remaining tissues are modelled in a smaller and higher configuration in a conical form.
The remaining scars are permanent and visible. You will have a circular scar around the areola, a scar in the groove under your breast, and a vertical scar that unites them. There are no scars above the areola.
After the operation you will have a compressive medication applied. In the 48 hours following the operation the medication will be changed, your wounds checked and you wil be given a lighter medication and a sports bra to wear night and day for a month. ùstitches are intradermic and re-absorbable and to not need removing.
You can take a shower after a week, work and social activities are fairly limited in the first 10 days following the operation.
Generally patients should not lift weights and should not drive for the first 2 weeks.
